Easter Ham with Sugarless Maple Glaze

What’s Easter without ham? Ham provides a lot of protein along with some vitamins and minerals, but it can also be high in both sodium and fat. If your having ham this Easter, opt for the healthier extra lean version if you can, to save you both fat and calories. If your not cooking it yourself, just remember your portion control, load up on Spring veggies and you’ll be fine! We’ve also included a maple glaze using sugar free maple syrup. Sugar free syrups have come long way and are delicious alternatives to the full sugar versions. Happy Easter everyone!

6lb lean Ham, fully cooked, spiral sliced

6oz Pineapple juice

2 tbsp Maple syrup, sugar free

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

1/8 tsp Allspice

25-30 Cloves, dried

1/4 cup Water

Preheat the oven to 225 degrees

In a small bowl mix together the 2 tbsp of the pineapple juice, maple syrup, Dijon mustard and the allspice. Using a pastry brush, brush the glaze over entire ham covering the top and sides. One by one, place the cloves evenly around the whole ham in-between the slices with the head of the clove sitting on top of the ham. Using a roasting pan with a baking rack, place the ham in the rack, keeping it off the bottom of the pan. Add the water and the remaining pineapple juice to the pan, cover with aluminum foil and bake for one hour and fifteen minutes.

Kevin’s Tip:  Don’t limit your ham consumption to just Easter! A good lean ham is not only low in fat and high in protein, it is limitless in the variety of ways you can serve it and should be enjoyed all year round.
